A
direct consequent of globalisation has been the internationalisation
of higher education. This has taken three forms: the incoming
of foreign students, development of institutional linkages,
and "export of education" through franchise or distance education
programmes. India, unfortunately, has been slow to respond
to the challenges of internationalisation. Keeping in view
the importance of internationalisation, the Association of
Indian Universities (AIU) organised, in February, 2001, a
Roundtable at Mysore to discuss the different issues related
to the internationalisation of Indian higher education. The
proceedings of the Roundtable were published in the form of
a volume entitled "Internationalisation of Indian Higher Education".
In view of the favourable response to the AIU initiative in
this regard a second Roundtable on "Internationalisation of
Higher Education" was organised at Amritsar in February 2002.
The discussions centered around the sub-themes "Status and
Policy" "Institutional Links and Student Mobility " and "Marketing"
The papers presented at the second Roundtable are included
