Anveshan: Student Research Convention

Dear Vice Chancellor/Director

Anveshan, Student Research Convention enters its second year after its  success in its debut endeavour this year.

In an effort to gear up scientific research and innovation and their application to the welfare of the society, Association of Indian Universities has taken the initiative to organize Student Research Conventions for the aspiring researchers throughout the country.

The convention is scheduled to be organized in three phases . In the first phase, all universities in the country are requested to organize a competition/exhibition of research projects at university level in which students from affiliated/constituent colleges, research institutions and university departments will participate. The exhibited projects will be scrutinized by a team of experts.

In the second phase, the competition/exhibition will be organized at Zonal level for which one university in each zone has been identified (details enclosed).     The projects selected at the first phase will be called for the second round of scrutiny.

In the third phase, the competition/exhibition will be held at National level.  The projects selected through zonal competition will be participating in the National Competition.

Accordingly, we request you to send five successful projects (assessed from the competition at university level), one from each of the following group:

·             Agriculture
·             Basic Sciences
·             Engineering & Technology
·             Health Sciences and Allied Subjects, Pharmacy, Nutrition, etc.
·             Social Sciences, Humanities, Commerce and Law (objective and result oriented projects)

The selected projects are to be sent by the university to the respective host university, conducting the zonal convention. The Zonal conventions for different regions have been scheduled to be held during January 2009 (pl see the calendar).

Successful projects at the zonal competitions will be called by the Association of Indian Universities for the National level competition.

The projects will be assessed by a panel of experts drawn from various disciplines.  The students whose projects will be selected in the final stage at national level convention will be promoted though proper incentives for career development in research.

The general guidelines and the schedule of the events are enclosed for your reference. The same is also available on AIU Website: www. aiuweb.org. As we are running against time, an early action at the first phase of the competition may kindly be initiated.

The entries of the research projects will be purely institutional and only bonafide and Full-time students of the universities/institutions are eligible to participate. The Registration form of the successful candidates (selected for the zonal level) duly filled in with a crossed Demand Draft of Rs 500 (per participant) covering the registration fee, payable to Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, may please be forwarded to Dr Bijayalaxmi Mishra, Assistant Director & I/c Research Division with a copy to the coordinator of the host university at the zonal level, which should reach at least fifteen days before commencement of the programme.

An early response in this regard shall be highly appreciated.

With regards,
Yours sincerely,
(Dayanand Dongaonkar)

All Vice-chancellors /Directors of Indian Universities/Institutions

GUIDLINES

 Anveshan: 2009

2nd Student Research Convention

Spirit of inquiry, creativity and innovativeness are some of the natural endowments bestowed upon human beings, which are the keys to transformation of life. These factors, when manifested in the form of research, open new frontiers of knowledge, which is instrumental for all forms of development. Perhaps, this is the reason for which research is recognized as one of the core functions of the universities/institutions of higher learning and the universities have been rendering this responsibility with utmost diligence.   India’s noteworthy progress in the field of Information Technology, Energy and Space etc are the outcome of consistent endeavour of our intellectual resources. India, currently producing a solid core of knowledge workers in tertiary and scientific and technical education and its economy and industrial sector   set for an unparalleled growth is poised to become the future   global knowledge hub. However, the onus lies largely on our Higher Education system and particularly on our universities.   But, of late, research has become a subservient component in the university functioning. Resource constraints, lack of commitment, proper incentive etc., are the impediments that are affecting the quality of research in our institutions of higher education. Other important factors for the deterioration of the quality of research are the absence of adequate training and other capacity building endeavour in our system, which have restricted students’ creativity only to rote memory. On the contrary, their potential should be nurtured and exploited for the benefit of the society. The current boom in Indian economy signaling an era of transformation should provide ample opportunity for success to innovative young brains to become trend setters and role models of   a vibrant India.

With a view to inculcating research culture in our higher education institutions, the Association of Indian Universities has taken a pioneering initiative to organize student research conventions for the aspiring researchers through out the country. These conventions aim at identifying the young and rising talents who would be promoted through proper encouragement and incentives. Also an attempt shall be made to commercialize their research projects with industrial collaboration. The endeavour may accelerate scientific research and innovation and their application towards community development percolating to the grassroot level. Anveshan enters the second year after its immense success at the first stint.  Anveshan 2008 was applauded across the country for providing an innovative platform for students and generating particularly a culture of research among young students.
